Meniscus problems we treat

Expert treatment for every kind of meniscus tear

A meniscus tear diagnosis doesn't automatically mean surgery — many tears respond well to physical therapy. Every plan starts with a one-on-one evaluation by a Doctor of Physical Therapy, focused on how your knee actually functions.

Hands-on treatment for a painful knee

Catching, Locking & Clicking

A knee that catches, clicks, or feels stuck — or won't fully bend or straighten — is classic meniscus territory. We treat the function, not just the MRI words.

After Meniscus Surgery

Meniscectomy and meniscus repair recover differently — we follow your surgeon's protocol and progress by healing stage, strength, and walking, not the calendar.

Good to know

Quick answers before you book

Do I need surgery for a meniscus tear? +
Not every meniscus tear requires surgery. Research increasingly supports non-operative management for many types of tears — particularly degenerative tears in middle-aged and older adults — and many patients who commit to a full course of physical therapy avoid surgery entirely. The right path depends on the tear type, your symptoms, and your goals.
Can physical therapy help a meniscus tear? +
Often, yes. PT helps with meniscus-related pain, swelling, stiffness, weakness, and function when the tear is appropriate for conservative care — or as part of a post-surgical plan. Meniscus symptoms aren't judged by MRI words alone: function matters.
How long does meniscus rehab take? +
Most knee plans run 6–12 weeks, with many patients seeing significant improvement within 4–8. Post-surgical recovery follows your surgeon's protocol and depends on whether you had a meniscectomy or a repair — repairs typically progress more gradually.
What does meniscus rehab include? +
Swelling control, knee mobility, quadriceps and hip strengthening, gait training, stair practice, squat mechanics, balance, return-to-work or return-to-sport progression, and a home plan matched to your symptoms.
When should knee pain be checked urgently? +
Seek medical evaluation promptly if the knee is locked and cannot bend or straighten, you can't bear weight after trauma, swelling increases rapidly, there's visible deformity, or pain is worsening instead of improving. For everything else, a PT evaluation is a smart first step.
Do I need a doctor's referral or prescription? +
Not in New Jersey — you can book directly with us today (it's called direct access). In Pennsylvania most patients can also start without a referral; some insurance plans ask for one as treatment continues, and we'll check yours and handle the paperwork for you.
Will my insurance cover physical therapy? +
We're in-network with Medicare, Horizon BCBS, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and many more. Before your first visit we verify your exact benefits — copay, deductible, visit limits — for free, so there are no surprises.
How fast can I get an appointment? +
Most new patients are seen the same week. Tell us if you're in a lot of pain and we'll do everything we can to get you in sooner.
What happens at my first visit? +
A one-on-one evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy — typically a full hour. They'll assess your knee motion, swelling, strength, and how you walk and squat, find what's actually driving the symptoms, and build your personal plan. In most cases, treatment starts the same day.

Don't let your knee shrink your life

A knee that doesn't trust stairs and turns changes everything you do. Conservative care should never mean waiting and hoping — and your closest Trinity Rehab is minutes away.
