Hip conditions we treat

Expert treatment for all types of hip pain

Many patients improve within 6–12 weeks — and you don't need a referral to start in New Jersey. Every plan starts with a one-on-one evaluation by a Doctor of Physical Therapy, so we treat the root cause, not just the symptom.

Hands-on treatment for hip osteoarthritis

Hip Osteoarthritis

PT can't reverse arthritis — but it can reduce pain, improve walking, strengthen the muscles that support the joint, and delay or better prepare you for surgery.

Visits 1–4

Hip, Glute & Core Strengthening

Bridges, clamshells, step-ups, and progressive strengthening rebuild the muscles that support the joint — the foundation of lasting relief.

Visits 4–8

Advanced recovery tech

Tools most local clinics don't have

We invest in equipment most clinics don't have, so you heal faster. Every Trinity Rehab plan can tap into:

EPAT shockwave therapy in use at Trinity Rehab

Shockwave therapyEPAT®

Acoustic pressure waves stimulate blood flow and healing in stubborn tendon and soft-tissue problems — including hip pain from bursitis or overuse.

Dry needling treatment at Trinity Rehab

Hands-on careDry Needling & Manual Therapy

Precise trigger-point release for tight hip flexors and glutes whose tension keeps overloading the joint — paired with hands-on joint mobilization.

AlterG anti-gravity treadmill at Trinity Rehab

Anti-gravity treadmillAlterG®

Walk or run at a fraction of your body weight while your hip heals — practice gait and stairs without overloading the joint. A favorite for post-surgical recovery.

Good to know

Quick answers before you book

How long does hip pain physical therapy take? +
Many patients improve within 6–12 weeks. Some improve within a few weeks; chronic hip arthritis, post-surgical rehab, or complex symptoms may need a longer plan. Early signs of progress include less pain after sitting, better sleep, easier stairs, and improved walking tolerance.
Can physical therapy help hip arthritis? +
Physical therapy can't reverse cartilage changes — but it can do a lot. Many patients reduce pain, improve walking, and strengthen the muscles that support the joint. It can also delay surgery — or leave you far better prepared if surgery is eventually needed.
Is my pain from my hip or my back? +
Hip joint pain often shows up in the groin or front of the hip, while back-related pain may travel into the buttock, thigh, or leg. There's overlap — which is why your evaluation checks both, so we treat the actual source instead of chasing the symptom.
Does hip bursitis go away with physical therapy? +
Many patients with hip bursitis improve with a plan that reduces irritation, restores mobility, strengthens the hip and core, and changes the activities or positions that keep aggravating it — like sleeping position or stair habits.
Can I start before or after hip surgery? +
Both. Strengthening before surgery leaves you better prepared, and after hip replacement or arthroscopy, therapy often begins within days — your surgeon and therapist set the safest timeline. Our AlterG® anti-gravity treadmill lets many patients practice walking early without overloading the new joint.
Do I need a doctor's referral or prescription? +
Not in New Jersey — you can book directly with us today (it's called direct access). In Pennsylvania most patients can also start without a referral; some insurance plans ask for one as treatment continues, and we'll check yours and handle the paperwork for you.
Will my insurance cover physical therapy? +
We're in-network with Medicare, Horizon BCBS, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and many more. Before your first visit we verify your exact benefits — copay, deductible, visit limits — for free, so there are no surprises.
How fast can I get an appointment? +
Most new patients are seen the same week. Tell us if you're in a lot of pain and we'll do everything we can to get you in sooner.
What happens at my first visit? +
A one-on-one evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy — typically a full hour. They'll assess your hip and back motion, strength, and how you walk, find what's actually driving the pain, and build your personal plan. In most cases, treatment starts the same day.

Don't let hip pain shrink your routine

Untreated hip pain changes how you move — shorter strides, avoiding stairs, sleeping on one side. Early treatment means faster relief, and your closest Trinity Rehab is minutes away.
